Hair mesotherapy is a well-known concept in the health, beauty and hair care industry. It is a non-invasive procedure that helps to strengthen hair structure, stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth. How does this procedure work? For whom is the treatment suitable and, conversely, inappropriate?

Mesotherapy hair treatment is based on the application of a nourishing solution to the scalp. It works from the roots of the hair, not just superficially like conventional shampoos.

It is an injection method that supplies the scalp with substances necessary for hair health.

Indications, contraindications, course of treatment, results, disadvantages and many other interesting information can be found in the article.

What is hair mesotherapy?

The basic principle of mesotherapy is a special injection of a nourishing solution into the hair part of the client's scalp.

Hair mesotherapy is a non-invasive injectable procedure that helps address the problem of hair quality and hair loss in both women and men. Generally, the procedure is considered safe, scalp-friendly and almost painless.

The solution contains nourishing substances that stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, improve the condition of hair roots and revitalize hair follicles. They help eliminate excessive hair loss and breakage.

Using fine needles, a mixture of biologically active substances, vitamins, enzymes, proteins and hormones are injected into the middle layer of the scalp to regenerate the hair follicles.

The solution may also contain stem cells. This method is particularly designed to promote hair growth. The stem cell extracts and growth factors contained revitalise the hair follicles.

Hair growth and quality are influenced by many factors. Genetic predisposition, age, hormonal balance, hair care, general health, sufficient vitamins and minerals, diet, lifestyle, stress factor and many others.

Effects of hair mesotherapy

Hair mesotherapy can be performed by a dermatologist with a special certified course in mesotherapy. Medicinal injectable cocktails for hair mesotherapy can have different formulations and from different manufacturers.

However, all cocktails pursue relatively the same goal. This is to improve blood circulation to the skin, slow down hair ingrowth, promote new hair growth and treat the symptoms of alopecia, seborrhea, dandruff and other health problems.

Hair cocktails are selected for each patient individually based on the condition of the hair and the goals of treatment.

The injectable mixture may contain such ingredients as:

  • Vitamins A, B, C, E and K.
  • minerals zinc, iron, silicon, selenium, potassium and magnesium
  • the amino acids arginine, cysteine, glycine, ornithine and glutamine
  • antioxidant coenzyme Q10
  • D-panthenol
  • hyaluronic acid

Hair mesotherapy is considered one of the most effective non-invasive methods. Results after injections are visible after just two sessions. After the procedure, it is also important to follow proper hair care and lifestyle as recommended by your dermatologist.

To achieve the final effect, it is necessary to undergo the procedure several times.

However, the number of sessions is individual depending on the condition of the hair, the health of the patient and the goals of the treatment.

Possible results after undergoing hair mesotherapy:

  • Improved scalp hydration
  • Stimulation of blood circulation to the scalp.
  • Revitalization of hair follicles
  • Reduction of hair loss
  • Promotion of new hair growth
  • Normalization of sebaceous gland activity

Procedure and treatment

The procedure can be performed at any time of the year. Hair mesotherapy is a relatively simple and almost painless procedure (slightly painful).

The patient lies down comfortably on a medical chair. At the beginning, the doctor treats the scalp with an antiseptic disinfectant to prevent infection.

If you have a low pain threshold or if the procedure will be painful for you, the doctor may use local anesthesia. A numbing cream is used to numb the treatment area.

The length of the procedure itself depends on the extent of the area to be treated. On average, it takes 20 to 40 minutes. The doctor must use special thin mesotherapy needles with a thickness of 0.3 mm for multiple punctures.

The treatment itself involves injecting a multivitamin serum directly into the mesodermis, which is the layer of skin containing blood vessels and hair bulbs.

The number of total treatments is determined by the target and the condition of the affected hair. However, a minimum of 3 repetitions over a maximum of 9 weeks is recommended.

On average, 5-8 repetitions at weekly intervals are standardly recommended. Treatment intervals are extended to approximately 2 weeks.

The effect is visible after the second repetition.

The hair should be thicker, shinier and not fall out as before the treatment.

Immediately after the treatment, local redness, slight headache, swelling and sensitivity of the treated area may appear, which will subside within one or two days.

Very rarely, a local inflammatory deposit, haematoma or skin allergic reaction may occur.

Immediately after mesotherapy you should not wash your hair. On the contrary, it is advisable to wait 2-3 days after the procedure to wash it. It is also not recommended to go to the solarium, sauna, swim or stay in direct sunlight or, on the contrary, in severe frost for 3 days after the procedure.

Indications for hair mesotherapy:

  • Excessive hair loss
  • Thin, weakened hair
  • Slow hair growth
  • Alopecia
  • Seborrhea and dandruff
  • Dry and brittle hair
  • Excessively oily scalp
  • Damaged split ends

Contraindications to hair mesotherapy:

  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Acute inflammation of the skin
  • Dermatitis psoriasis
  • Unhealed local wounds
  • Irritated scalp
  • Fever and acute illnesses
  • Blood clotting disorder
  • Allergy to the ingredients of the mixture
  • Skin neoplasms
  • Oncological diseases
  • Unstable diabetes mellitus (diabetes)

Contraindications and their exceptions should be discussed with the treating dermatologist in a consultation prior to the procedure.

Summary of advantages and disadvantages of mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is suitable for almost all hair types: dry, normal and oily. Injection mesotherapy of hair has a relatively high efficacy compared to other methods of superficial hair treatment.

The final effect depends on the number of repetitions and the health of the client's hair. Therefore, the final effect is an individual matter for each individual.

At present, the results of expert clinical studies are not sufficiently processed and evaluated in the case of hair loss.

Possible benefits:

  • Reduction of hair loss
  • Promoting blood circulation to the scalp
  • Elimination of dandruff formation
  • Supporting the normalization of sebaceous gland activity
  • Nourishing the hair roots
  • Stimulation of hair growth

Possible disadvantages:

  • Slight painfulness of the procedure
  • Higher cost of treatment
  • Need for more sessions
