How is pseudoradiculopathy treated?
There are several treatment options and methods.
In the acute phase, it is mainly a matter of bed rest with pain relief. It is therefore a regimental changes and pharmacological treatment.
Pharmacological treatment involves the use of several medications, such as:
- analgesics
- antirheumatics
- muscle relaxants
- antiepileptics, which also have a pain-relieving effect, especially with chronic difficulties
- opiates and opioids in more severe conditions and cases of nerve compression
- antidepressants, as chronic pain has a negative effect on the mental health
- vitamins and minerals
After overcoming the acute phase, it is important to evaluate the patient's lifestyle and adapt to prevent recurrence (recurrence) and worsening of difficulties.
Rehabilitation, i.e. physiotherapy, exercise with regard to individual needs, traction treatment, acupuncture, back school are important changes.
Surgical treatment is indicated for more serious reasons, especially if conservative treatment fails.
It is reported that even in the case of intervertebral disc herniation, the conservative approach has a success rate of up to 90%.Of course, that depends on professional examination and evaluation.
Prevention is important...
Prevention of back problems is very important indeed.
Prevention includes:
- regular physical activity - adjusted to the abilities of the individual
- sports
- long walks
- reducing inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle
- workplace ergonomics
- a suitable bed to get quality sleep
- mattress
- pillow
- sleeping position
- best on the side
- with your knees bent towards your chest
- suitable pillow head support
- pillow placed between the knees
- Lying on the abdomen (belly) is NOT OK
- appropriate lifting of loads
- keep your spine safe when overloaded, especially in people not used to heavy lifting
- lifting from a squat and with a straight back
- keep the load as close to your chest/trunk as possible
- maximum weight should be lifted using legs, not the spine
- do not bend forward with the knees outstretched
- if overweight, lose weight

The secondary medical school in Nitra gave me the basis for my career in the field of health and diseases. Thanks to it, I worked for 2 years in the traumatology clinic and outpatient clinic at the Nitra Hospital. Since 2006 I was employed in the emergency medical service, where I stayed until 2017.
I completed my bachelor's degree at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra in the field of emergency health care. The bachelor's degree allowed me to continue my mission as a paramedic. In the meantime, I got a job at the emergency line 155. I have been working in pre-hospital health care until today.
I had an interest in people, health and even diseases in my childhood, which gave me the prerequisite to pursue this topic in adulthood. Studying and acquiring new information in practice provided me with a great basis for writing professional texts, in the form of articles that can be understood by ordinary people. Thus, my interest in the Health Portal has a solid foundation in years of practice and personal interest. Similarly, I am also interested in healthy eating, nutrition and overall healthy lifestyle. I fill my free time with family and sports.
