Treatment of vertebrogenic pain syndrome: medications, rehabilitation
Treatment in the acute stage requires bed rest. However, the latter should not last longer than 3 days. The regimen is supported by pharmacotherapy.
Medications used include analgesics, pain killers, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and opioids or opiates for very intense pain. Myorelaxants, i.e. muscle relaxants, are used as a complement. Alternatively, psychopharmaceuticals.
Do not forget about vitamins - C, E, B complex. And joint support.
Locally, sprays, blockades, local anaesthetics, gels, plasters, ointments can be applied. Applying dry heat is also recommended.
This is followed by physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Thermotherapy is used (infrared radiation, thermophore, paraffin, dry heat - a hairdryer at home will help). Application of cold, that is, cryotherapy, electrotherapy, ultrasound, magnetotherapy, traction therapy. The specialist masters manipulative and mobilization techniques to relax the muscles.
Also: massage, acupuncture, spa treatment.
Inappropriate is long-term inactivity = bad.
In other words, if my back hurts, it doesn't mean I'm going to lie in bed.
Therapeutic exercise, regular physical activity, strengthening of the back muscles, muscular corset, abdomen, body core, pelvic floor, also lower limbs are necessary. Correct posture, back school, therapeutic gymnastics or SM (stabilisation/mobilisation) system.
Breathing exercises will help, too.
In case of severe disease, if conservative treatment fails, a neurosurgeon is consulted and indicates surgical treatment.
