How is spondylodiscitis treated? Medications and antibiotics
Early diagnosis is the basis of successful treatment.
The main treatment method is the conservative therapy.
In her case, it is necessary to immobilise a section of the spine by using a corset. Subsequently, drugs are added. Mainly antibiotics that are effective against a given type of microorganism.
The right antibiotics are chosen on the basis of culture and sensitivity - laboratory blood tests. Parenteral treatment, i.e. intravenous administration, is the most effective in this case.
Therefore, this disease requires hospitalisation, i.e. medical care in a hospital. This can take up to 6 weeks.
Invasive method = surgical treatment, which may also be of a diagnostic nature, if the cause is not identified.
However, the indication for surgery is mainly conditions such as nerve oppression, spinal cord, vertebral instability or unsuccessful conservative treatment.
