Treatment of spondylarthrosis: Medication and rehabilitation
Treatment is important mainly from the approach of limiting progression, i.e. the progression of the disease.
At the stage of acute difficulties, pharmacological treatment is chosen, along with regimen measures. And these are bed rest, but not for long or restriction of movement of the spine with a corset, cervical collar.
Physiotherapy (magnetotherapy, thermotherapy, phototherapy, ultrasound, electrotherapy, paraffin, mud and others) and therapeutic rehabilitation are then added.
Pharmacological treatment includes:
- analgesics, i.e. painkillers (paracetamol)
- but also non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs (ibuprofen or diclofenac)
- myorelaxants - muscle relaxants
- sprays, to the site of the intervertebral joints
- also, topical analgesics, anaesthetics in the form of ointments, plasters or gels
- medicines to improve blood circulation and blood vessels
- corticosteroids
- joint nutrition support, such as hyaluronic acid, chondroitin or glucosamine sulphate
- vitamin C, E and B complex
Local application of warm compresses and dry heat.
Massage, traditional medicine, acupuncture will help.
If conservative treatment fails, a neurosurgeon is consulted who may indicate surgical treatment (removal of growths or stabilization, spinal segment plasty and other methods).
