How to cure sinusitis? Drugs, antibiotics and more for inflammation
Bed rest is important.
In addition to the usual symptomatic treatment, antibiotics are often an appropriate choice. Nasal drops are recommended, as are syrups if coughing is present. Antibiotics are best administered according to microbiologically proven sensitivity, but can also be given empirically.
Sinus lavage with saline is also appropriate. Medications such as paracetamol can be used as adjunctive anti-inflammatory treatment. Sometimes non-steroidal treatment of concomitant pain is also important.
Herbal teas, such as mint, lemon balm, sage or angelica, which can also be used to rinse the nasal cavity, are a suitable home treatment.
Such treatment leads to a reduction in swelling of the mucous membranes of the nasal and paranasal sinuses, facilitates expectoration and leads to a clearing of the airways. Drinking plenty of fluids is also important.
Surgical intervention is sometimes necessary for prolonged inflammation.
This may be the removal of a polyp or piece of mucous membrane, or a rhinoplasty to make the airway more open.
One of the treatment options is the use of an infrared lamp called solux. Its light accelerates healing and has a good effect on the recovery of the epithelium after an infection. On the other hand, the application of dry paraffin-type heat is not recommended.
Especially in spa facilities, it is possible to use inhalation therapy with an adjuvant (usually a substance that leads to the expansion of the bronchi and, in general, the airways and facilitates coughing).
