How is it treated? Medicines for scarlet fever.
Streptococci show high susceptibility to the penicillin series of antibiotics, which is why this antibiotic has been the drug of first choice in the treatment of scarlet fever for many years.
NOTE:
It is necessary to report all allergies of the child to the doctor in advance. After consideration, he will order a different line of antibiotics.
- Penicillin is taken for ten days, with the intravenous form of the antibiotic the number of days of therapy decreases, and at the end the so-called depot penicillin is administered (again in the form of per os), which maintains a sufficient level of ATB in the body for about a week.
- When the rash itches, an ointment can be ordered to relieve it.
- Adequate fluid intake and bed rest at the onset of the disease are necessary.
- Once overcome, it is not advisable to immediately put the child in the collective after the end of antibiotic treatment.
- After the end of treatment, a urine check is required. In case of suspected renal involvement, nephrological examination is necessary.
The goal of treatment for scarlet fever is to prevent the development of potential complications, the most feared being poststreptococcal nephritis and rheumatic fever.
