What is the treatment for rubella and what drugs work?
Treatment in children and adults, in the absence of complications, focuses on alleviating symptoms.
There is no direct treatment for rubella virus.
The infection is viral in origin. Antibiotics do not work.
In case of high fever, fever-relieving drugs like paracetamol, iboprufen are given. They also act as painkillers.
Administration of aspirin to children under 16 years of age is not recommended.
In case of itchy rash, a topical ointment is used on the affected skin, which has a numbing effect and reduces skin irritation.
Rest and drinking plenty of fluids are important.
Antibiotics are given only in case of complications of bacterial infection.
