How is aortic disease treated? Medication and surgery

Treatment groups several therapeutic methods.

From non-invasive non-pharmacological and pharmacological to invasive endovascular procedures and classical surgery.

Non-invasive ...

The goal of non-invasive methods is to prevent and eliminate negative factors. How is the maintenance of normal blood pressure - normotension, including appropriate lifestyle and regimen measures.

Pharmacologically, ie drug- maintained normal blood pressure. In the case of the underlying disease, it is recommended to take drugs to normalize the pressure preventively.

The treatment method is also chosen according to the respective disease, location, and extent of aortic damage.

For example: When dissecting aortic type A, there is always an indication for the surgical solution. For type B, this is a conservative approach.

Invasive ...

Invasive vascular treatment is covered by the EVAR method or also TEVAR  - endovascular aortic repair (+ thoracic).

= repair of the aorta by access through a vessel - endovascular, through a small puncture into an artery in the groin.

A stent is inserted into the aorta that covers the length of the damaged vessel. This prevents blood from penetrating the disturbed part and normalizes blood flow.

An advantage is a mini-invasive form, after which there is a faster recovery. However, it cannot be used in 100% of cases.

Standard surgery ...

The classic invasive method is cardiac surgery and surgery. Opening of the anterior wall, ie the chest or abdomen with access to the aorta.

The combination of traditional surgery and newer endovascular approaches has created a hybrid method.

The surgical approach also has several options and methods. These are selected after evaluation by experts. An example is the resection of a damaged part and the replacement with a vascular prosthesis.
