Treatment of thyroid cancer: surgery, oncology and conservative approaches

The treatment of first choice is surgical removal of the thyroid gland . This part is the most important. The thyroid gland is easily accessible from the front of the neck. However, near it are important vessels that supply the head and brain. Furthermore, the respiratory tract, vocal cords, parathyroid glands and esophagus. 

Of course, the extent of surgery depends on the size of the tumor. If the tumor invades the chest, the chest is also opened. After surgery, chemotherapy , radioactive iodine therapy or  external irradiation are also used . Especially in cases where all the tissue could not be removed during the operation. Radioiodine is not selected for every cancer. Sometimes he has to reoperate.

After removal of the thyroid gland, it is necessary to replace its hormones pharmacologically . The administered synthetic hormones, vitamin D , calcium . Long-term regular monitoring and repeated professional inspections of the person are necessary. These have the task of early detection of recurrence of cancer, or diagnosis of metastases. Psychotherapy is also important.

The secondary medical school in Nitra gave me the basis for my career in the field of health and diseases.
