Treatment of sciatica: Medication, topical, regimen and rehabilitation

The regimen also includes bed rest and avoidance of physical exertion. Proper positioning and a good mattress are important.
Physiotherapy also includes various exercises (for example, McKenzie technique and other exercises), traction therapy. Taping with elastic cotton tape, so-called "taping", can also help.
It is best to consult a specialist for home treatment and appropriate physical activity, as the underlying cause determines the appropriate exercises. Of course, it also depends on the physical and fitness disposition of each person.
Consultation will be provided by a neurologist, physiotherapist or trainer oriented in the given issue. Spa treatment is also suitable.
Conservative treatment has a largely high success rate. In case it fails, surgical operative treatment is chosen.
Indications for surgical treatment are, for example, cauda equina syndrome and other severe root syndromes. The aim is to relieve the oppression of the nerve roots.
Prevention is better than cure

The spine needs plenty of adequate exercise (swimming, cycling, weight-bearing exercise, yoga, rehabilitation exercises). In case of health complications, walking and correct posture are sufficient.

In the case of sedentary jobs and office work, it is necessary to think about a suitable working environment, chair, desk and sitting position.
Regular breaks are essential when working sitting or in one position.
During windy or cold days, it is necessary to think about appropriate clothing and avoiding cold-induced stiffness of the musculoskeletal system. If you are overweight or obese, weight reduction and, of course, other elements of a healthy lifestyle are advisable.
