Scabies: how to get rid of it and treat it? Medicines, ointments, hygiene

The treatment of pruritus has several directions.

The basis is thorough hygiene, targeted treatment and application of ointments and, last but not least, prevention of reinfection.

Hygiene

Thorough personal hygiene and a spa are part of every scabies treatment.

The fact is that water does not get to the skin drilled in the skin in the blinded corridor, even in the form of a longer bath, and therefore does not kill it.

However, washing is important because of the washing away of parasites that are on the surface of the skin.

Medicinal ointment can be applied except for thoroughly cleansed and clean towel-dried skin.

Important note:

  1. a thorough bath must be completed with a full-body shower
  2. it is advisable to use soaps with disinfectant properties
  3. a clean towel must be used to dry the body
  4. used towel, clothing and bedding should not be used more than once
  5. used towels, clothes and bed linen must not be used by another member of the family
  6. used towel clothes and bed linen should be soaked before disinfection
  7. used towel clothes and bed linen must be washed at a temperature of at least 80 ° C
  8. used towels clothes and bed linen must be ironed at a higher temperature
  9. we must not forget our shoes when disinfecting and washing
  10. footwear is not recommended during quarantine measures for at least one week
  11. furniture and fabrics on which you sit or lie should be covered with a blanket that is easier to clean
  12. it is advisable to regularly disinfect furniture and other textiles (couch, mattress)

Keep in mind:
Scabies is a notifiable, highly infectious disease that must be reported.
The same measures should be followed by family members of the patient, sexual partners, or people in the group where the scabies occurred.
These measures are particularly important to prevent the spread of the disease.

Pharmacological treatment - topical treatment for scabies

Therapy in the form of ointments containing active substances is the most common treatment.

The oldest remedy, and at the same time the most used remedy for scabies, is the application of sulfur ointment.

The preparation permethrin magistraliter (synthetic pyrethroid contained in chrysanthemums) is used, which contains 10 - 20% sulfur in the preparation for adults and 2.5% sulfur in the preparation for children.
The ointment is applied once a day after the bath for 3 days.
After a three-day treatment, there is a three-day break, then the treatment is repeated until the scabies disappears.
The symptoms usually disappear within a few days, depending on the rate of overgrowth and other hygienic measures.

Note:
Lindan, often used in the past, is banned in EU countries due to possible neurotoxicity.
In some few countries, it is still used as a second-line treatment.

Often, pyrethroid-containing ointments or benzyl benzoate preparations are used, which are rubbed into the skin twice a day for three days.

Important:
Apply the ointment thoroughly to the whole body, special care and thorough rubbing of the ointment must be given to the affected areas of the body.
