How is presbyopia treated? Correction, lenses and laser
The solution to presbyopia is primarily visual correction aids, i.e. glasses or contact lenses. Of course, as the lens ages, the dioptres will have to be adjusted, too.
Monovision is another special method that uses different lenses, one spherical contact lens for distant and for near objects.
Another form of treatment is surgery. Newer methods include Raindrop, a lens implant containing microscopic hydrogel.
PRELEX, a surgery in which the original lens is replaced with an artificial one, is also a well-known approach. The artificial lens can be of various types, such as bifocal or multifocal.
PRELEX stands for PREsbyopic Lens Exchange.
Other methods are LASIK, FEMTO LDV Z8, and corneal implant. It is important to have the eyes examined by a specialist, who can then recommend a suitable type of treatment.
