How is hypertension treated? How to reduce pressure? Medication is necessary

Treatment tends to be very problematic.

The reason is that people have not been sufficiently educated/informed about it. They think that if they measure good pressure from time to time, they can get off the medication and no longer take it.

Alternatively, withdrawal from medication may be behind the increased pressure, as alcohol intake is assumed. Which is a big mistake. This brief withdrawal from medication can be the reason for hypertensive crisis, stroke and other serious difficulties.

Similarly, if the medicines for hypertension are not kept in order.

Note:
Treatment may only be adjusted or cancelled only by the patient's GP.

Pharmacological treatment

This form involves treatment with medication. In the treatment of hypertension, combination therapy is chosen when the effects of different drugs are combined. Combination therapy has an advantage over treatment with a single drug.

Other associated diseases are also taken into account in the treatment. Which can complicate it.

The following medications are used:

  • antihypertensives, vasodilators
  • ACEI - angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors
  • beta blockers
  • calcium channel blockers
  • diuretics
  • angiotensin receptor blockers
  • and combinations thereof

Sometimes a two-drug combination is sufficient, other times a three-drug combination is needed.

Medications for high blood pressure work for a certain period of time. If their effect is not sufficient, or if the high blood pressure increases in the evening or at night - the morning dose of the medication alone is not enough - the doctor should be informed.

People treated for high blood pressure for a long time, have special drugs available to them that they use as first aid. Or their doctor will advise them to take extra medication if the readings go up. Otherwise, one does not adjust the therapy oneself.

Non-pharmacological therapy
