What is the treatment of ascaridosis, human hookworm: Medications, antiparasitic tablets
Treatment depends on the amount of parasites in the intestine and the complications that arise.
The basic approach is conservative treatment in the form of antiparasitic tablets with the active substance mebendazole or albendazole.
The administered drugs kill the worms within 3 days.
After cure, the infestation may reappear.
Surgery is performed in several cases:
- The worm has blocked the bile duct.
- The helminth has strayed into the appendix, where it causes inflammation
- There is a risk of blockage and subsequent intestinal obstruction due to overgrowth of the helminth
